Home Heating Options to Consider

radiant-heatingHeating your home effectively is not just a priority—it is a necessity. Things can get very cold around here during the winter season, and you need a great heater installed in your home if you hope to make it through the season comfortably. If you ask us, however, a great heater is not all you need. You also need to know that you have the right heater for your home and personal heating preferences in place.

There are many different types of heaters out there that you may choose from, and rushing through the system selection process is the fastest route toward buyer’s regret. Remember, your heater is going to last a long time—at least, it will when you schedule your residential HVAC services in Columbia, MD, with a member of our team! Think of it as a long-term investment, and make sure you get that investment’s greatest return! Here are a few different systems to consider.

Boilers

Talk about an oldy but a goodie. Boilers have been around for a very long time, and with good reason. They are efficient, as they use heated water to distribute heat throughout homes rather than air, which doesn’t retain heat as well. They have fewer moving parts than forced air heaters, making them incredibly reliable. They may also be designed to use radiators (not as common these days), baseboards, or hydronic heating systems to spread heat throughout the house. With in-floor heating, heat stays down in the living space where it belongs.

Furnaces

Furnaces are the most common types of heaters found in homes throughout the country. It’s not tough to see why. They’re cheaper to install than boilers. They can share ductwork with central air conditioning systems. And they are more efficient than ever before. They may cause air quality issues and lose efficiency due to leaky ductwork, but this is true of any forced air HVAC system. Keep yours well-maintained, ductwork included, and you’ll be heating your home promptly and efficiently in no time.

Heat Pumps

If you are really looking to kick efficiency up a notch, then a heat pump may be just what you are looking for. If you’re not familiar with the technology, just think of it as a central air conditioner that can run in reverse. That means that, rather than removing heat from inside your home, the system can remove heat from the air outside and transfer it into your home! Of course, it can also function just like an AC thanks to its reversing valve, meaning that you get year-round comfort in just one system.

Ductless Mini Splits

No air ducts? No problem! Ductless mini splits are just that—ductless! This means that these systems are perfect for installing in those homes without central ductwork, or for replacing forced air systems for homeowners that no longer want to use ductwork. They are heat pumps, so they offer heating and cooling, and each individual blower that the system uses is independently controlled. That means you can maintain different temperatures in different areas with ease.
